PUTRAJAYA: The country reported 17 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday (May 16) bringing the total number of infections in the country to 6,872.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said out of the 17 new cases, six were imported while 11 were local transmissions.
He added that five of those cases were detected among foreigners.
Dr Noor Hisham also said that 73 patients were discharged in the same 24-hour span.
He said this means that 5,512 patients have recovered from Covid-19 in Malaysia since the outbreak began.
"There are 13 positive Covid-19 cases who are being treated in intensive care units (ICU), and of that total, five needed ventilator support," he said during his daily Covid-19 briefing on Saturday (May 16).
Dr Noor Hisham also said that one new death was recorded with the death toll rising to 113 cases.
