Security tightened ahead of Johor state assembly sitting

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Security for the official opening of the Johor state assembly sitting at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar here on Thursday morning (May 14) has been tightened.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, screening checkpoints were set up at the building to check body temperature of media members, as well as the heads of state government departments attending the one-day sitting here on Thursday (May 14).

All assemblymen have been barred from bring their mobile phones inside the hall.

Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar would be officiating the opening ceremony at 9.30am.

According to a state assembly official, the assembly's officiating ceremony in Kota Iskandar was historic as this was being done for the first time in 11 years.

Previously the ruler would officiate the ceremony at the old government building of Bukit Timbalan in Johor Baru.
