RM13k in contraband cigarettes seized, one man arrested


BATU PAHAT: A total of RM13,499 in contraband cigarettes were seized from a store in Rengit, and one one man was arrested by the General Operations Force (GOF).

GOF 5th Battalion commanding officer Supt Dimin Awang said the contraband was found stored under the counter of the premises along Jalan Besar.

"At around 3.15 pm on Sunday (May 10), our personnel conducted an inspection on the store.

"It was then that they found the 86 cartons of contraband cigarettes," he said, adding that the cashier, a 56-year-old man, was also arrested.

The seized items and the suspect have been handed over to the Batu Pahat police department for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967.
