PETALING JAYA: An online portal to ease the Bantuan Prihatin application process for tour bus drivers has been launched by the Transport Ministry.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the Government was aware of the hardship faced by almost 10,000 tour bus drivers as well as some 1,000 tour companies due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"As a Government that cares for the rakyat, the Transport Ministry has set up a portal to ease the process of registering for Bantuan Prihatin for tour bus drivers," said Dr Wee in a statement on Friday (May 8).
Tour companies with a valid Tour Operating Business and Travel Agency Business (Tobtab) and vehicles registered under the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) are eligible to fill in details of their drivers in the portal.
Details required are the drivers' MyKad, licence and bank account numbers, and companies have two weeks from May 8 to apply.
After the drivers' details have been filled in, applicants will be vetted to ensure they comply with all the conditions.
Drivers must be Malaysian citizens, are Social Security Organisation contributors and be permanent workers of their respective companies.
Eligible drivers must also possess a vocational driving licence (PSV), an "E" class licence or any relevant driving licence still valid under the Road Transport Department (RTD).
