KUALA LUMPUR: The Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) has distributed some 10,000 face masks to delivery riders at Wisma MCA in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19.Its secretary-general Ng Han Kok said CRSM had also donated clinical-grade face masks to hospitals and medical non-governmental organisations.
“Today, we are distributing face masks to delivery riders as they are also part of the frontliners.
“These riders are also putting themselves at risk of infection to deliver food so that people can continue to stay at home and minimise exposure to the virus, ” he said.
Ng said the face masks were gathered through the crowdfunding initiative GoCare.
He said the public could visit the website – gocare.org.my – to donate to the campaign.
Riders from four delivery companies – Foodpanda, Grab Food, DeliverEat.my and Runningman.my – received the face masks, along with 120 cartons of Twingo snacks, courtesy of TC of TC Sdn Bhd.
Foodpanda delivery rider Azlan Abdul Latif, 36, expressed his gratitude for the items.
“We need about three to five face masks per day as we work between eight and 10 hours per shift.
“Due to the rain, hot weather and sweat, we need to change it more often, ” he said, adding that the face masks provided by the company were not enough to last the whole day.
