PETALING JAYA: An online gambling syndicate took a huge hit after a calling centre in Nilai was busted by Bukit Aman.
Bukit Aman CID Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Division (D7) principal assistant director SAC Mohd Zani Che Din said the raid on Wednesday (April 29) afternoon saw 44 arrests.
"Investigations showed that the group were promoting their activities via WeChat and QQ Messenger.
"They have been operating for six months and the premises were only used for transactions from China.
"The bungalow in which they operated in was rented for about RM7,000 a month," he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 29).
The group is believed to have enticed players with easy games and higher chances of winning.
A total of 17 laptops and 75 handphones were seized.
He added that the syndicate was believed to reap around RM150,000 daily.
"The suspects, aged between 18 to 45 years old, came from various provinces in China. They have been sent to the Nilai police headquarters for further investigations.
