KUALA LUMPUR: A strict and thorough gatekeeping system at healthcare facilities is vital to prevent infections, says a doctor from China who is here to help in managing the coronavirus outbreak.

Adherence to standard operating procedures (SOP) when tending to patients at different stages must be practised at all times, said Dr Zhang Youping, director of the Nosocomial Infection Control Department of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.“The three main entry points at healthcare facilities – outpatient, emergency and trauma, and admission must maintain strict screening rules to separate symptomatic and asymptomatic patients,” she said.
