Remembering the other unsung heroes of MCO - TM frontliners who help Malaysia #stayhome and #stayconnected

There are many invisible and unsung heroes among us. They are committed to giving more than they take, focused on the bigger picture and willing to sacrifice their energy, time and effort for the benefit of all Malaysians from all walks of life. The nation is forever in their debt.

One such example are the Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) frontliners who continue to serve the nation during the government’s Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

They are dedicated employees from all states who work tirelessly around the clock to build and maintain the nation’s infrastructure during this challenging time while strictly adhering to the safety guidelines and restrictions imposed by the government during the Covid-19 pandemic, to ensure the continuity of its telecommunications services so Malaysians can #stayconnected and #stayproductive while they #sTayhoMe.

These TM support teams are readily available and TM’s customers can always reach out to them for any enquiries and assistance via its multiple digital customer service channels.

All TM Contact Centres nationwide are operating from 7.00 am to 9.00 pm, including TM call centre at 100, Live Chat, Social Media and e-mail. TM contact centre agents and network teams are on standby in multiple shifts to ensure the nation stays connected.

In the meantime, all TM employees continue to work at full speed, while exercising social distancing and complying with other guidelines and restrictions imposed by the Government during this MCO period, to ensure the functioning of its network infrastructure and guarantee the continuity of its services, especially at this time when internet connectivity and solutions play a fundamental role for the country.

They perform hundreds of upgrades through scalable solutions to support enterprises and critical public sector operations.

They also support the nation’s command centres for ministries and essential services. The workforce operates a 24/7 command centre supporting the public sector and enterprises to run their critical operations from both home and onsite.

“We truly understand that connectivity is critical during this unprecedented period and as the enabler of Malaysia’s Digital Nation aspiration, we are here to help everyone’s stay at home, during this MCO period, easier.

“We are committed to ensuring that our network is always-on and available to customers, so they can stay connected, entertained, productive, informed and continue to be served during the MCO, ” said TM group chief executive officer Dato’ Noor Kamarul Anuar Nuruddin.

“As the nation’s telecommunications and digital infrastructure provider, TM has fully supported and will continue to support the industry and the nation’s requirements.

“We have committed the necessary network investment to support any increased demand and are collaborating with other industry players to ensure the availability of uninterrupted connectivity and adequate bandwidth capacity for all, ” he said.

Noor Kamarul added: “We join the nation in paying tribute to our entire medical and essential services frontliners out there, including our 6,000 contact centre agents, technical teams and engineers, and pray that all Malaysians stay safe, healthy, alert and strong while we weather through this testing time together.”

Additionally, the company has set up a new Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) for the Health Ministry (MoH) within a day, manned by TM’s call centre agents to assist on enquiries focusing on Covid-19 and MoH-related matters.

On top of that, they have shown seamless continuous support for both CPRC and Malaysia Government Call Centre (MyGCC).

TM has also deployed its 5G base stations at two quarantine centres for Covid-19 cases, namely the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park (MAEPS) in Serdang and the Malaysia Health Ministry Training Institute in Sungai Buloh, Selangor.

With the deployment of these 5G base stations, frontliners, medical teams and patients that admitted to both facilities will be able to enjoy enhanced mobile broadband services and free WiFi over 5G connectivity.

TM was able to deploy the base stations within just a few days.

With the efficiencies and convenience of 5G connectivity, the frontliners and medical teams will be able to #stayproductive in their operations to respond to any emergency situations and provide the necessary treatments; while the patients will be able to #stayconnected with their families and loved ones during their stay at the quarantine facilities.

Recently, a fault was detected at one of its nodes in the remote Maliau Basin area in Sabah. The fault required on-site equipment to be replaced as soon as possible. TM Sabah’s team members, Elvis and Rahim, had immediately rushed to the site and proceeded to replace the damaged equipment on April 13,2020.

Due to the remote and isolated location, it took the duo a fair amount of time to arrive at the site. Restoration work was activated and was completed at noon the next day.

The ongoing MCO also meant that nearby rest houses were closed. Both Elvis and Rahim had no choice but to camp out at the site as they had to be nearby in order to monitor the newly replaced equipment and ensure that it was operating in perfect working order.

Over and above ensuring that all Malaysians #stayconnected, TM also mobilised its team of TM volunteers together with other Government-Linked Companies (GLC) and Government-Linked Investment Companies (GLIC) Disaster Response Network (GDRN) members also distributed medical supplies and non-medical supplies including personal hygiene kits to seven hospitals, and to enforcement officers in the Klang Valley.

Malaysia is now in the third phase of MCO – about a month into this “new normal”. The frontliners will continue to fight the good fight and their tireless efforts should continue to be recognised; even in the simplest manner such as the wonderful show of solidarity in applauding and cheering them on in all neighbourhoods, to extending contributions to them and their families in this time of need.

And so to all frontliners in Malaysia, wherever they are. "You are our Heroes".

May you #staysafe and #staystrong.
