Cop who rescued puppy from drain receives commendation letter from Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor

SHAH ALAM: A policeman from the Shah Alam district police received a letter of commendation from Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin on Friday (April 17).

The letter was presented to Kpl Mohd Azad Azady Mohd Tarmizee by Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's assistant private secretary Muhammad Syahir Hasan in a simple ceremony.

Also at the event was Shah Alam police chief ACP Baharudin Mat Taib and his deputy, Supt Ramsay Embol.

A video clip of Kpl Mohd Azad Azady rescuing a puppy trapped in a monsoon drain in Section 7, Shah Alam, on April 9 is still making its rounds on social media.

The black puppy is believed to have fallen into the drain and Mohd Azad Azady, who was on duty nearby, spotted it.

He then jumped into the drain and rescued the puppy while being watched by two adult dogs, believed to be its parents.

The adult dogs were seen wagging their tails and approaching Kpl Mohd Azad Azady after he had rescued the puppy.

The video of the rescue mission was posted on Facebook by one Ezam Ramli and was widely shared on many sites, especially those belonging to animal welfare and rescue organisations.

The policeman, from the Shah Alam police mobile patrol unit of the crime prevention and community safety department, was praised by netizens for his kindness.

In a video posted by the Shah Alam police, Kpl Mohd Azad Azady said he was on his rounds when he heard the cries of a puppy.

Realising the cries sounded strange, he walked around and spotted the puppy in the drain.

"I then rescued the puppy without a second thought," said the policeman, who was also praised by his superiors for his prompt action.
