KOTA KINABALU: Police have seized a homemade shotgun from a 49-year-old man in Beaufort, after he claimed that he has gone out to hunt during the movement control order (MCO).
The suspect, who was behaving suspiciously inside a four-wheel vehicle at a cemetery in Kg Madang Pimping in Membakut around midnight on Monday (March 30), was approached by policemen on patrols.
Beaufort district police chief Deputy Supt Azmir Abdul Razak said on checking the man, police found two bullets in his pocket.
"Upon checking the vehicle, they found the homemade shotgun wrapped in a piece of cloth," he said, adding that the man was immediately arrested and his four-wheel drive as well as a parang, among others, were seized.
DSP Azmir said upon questioning, the man told police that he was on his way back to his house after going hunting for wildlife in a nearby jungle.
The man is being investigated under the Firearms Act as well for breaching the MCO.
