KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has sufficient rice stocks and shortages in any area are merely due to logistical delays, says state Agriculture and Food Industries Minister Datuk Junz Wong.
He said that as long as there was no panic buying, there would be sufficient rice stocks to meet the needs of the people in Sabah.
“Even if people encounter a situation where there is no stock in some places, it’s only due to logistics problems, not stockpile (shortages), ” he said.
Wong was responding to claims on social media that some were unable to buy rice as it had run out, sparking concern of a general shortage.
However, some retailers explained that certain rice brands sold out faster then the other.
Retailers said rice was still available, as long as customers were not fussy about the brand they are buying.
