PETALING JAYA: Seven villages in Hulu Langat will be under an enhanced movement control order (Emco) from midnight after 71 tahfiz residents tested positive for Covid-19.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the area under Emco covers Batu 21 until Batu 24 in Sungai Lui in Selangor.
He said the Emco was imposed because the Health Ministry detected 71 positive Covid-19 cases out of 274 residents from the Maahad Tahfiz An-Nabawiyyah school at Batu 23 Sungai Lui.
"The Emco will involve 3,918 residents comprising 700 houses. This includes seven villages – two orang asli villages and five Malay villages.
"This order is in effect from midnight today until April 13," he said in a statement on Sunday (March 29).
Ismail said the Emco was being implemented to prevent the further spread of Covid-19 there and carry out case tracking from house-to-house.
During this period, Ismail said all residents and visitors in the area would not be allowed to leave their houses throughout the duration of the Emco.
"Non-residents and visitors are also not allowed to enter the area," he said, adding all exits would be closed.
"All business activity is stopped and basic foodstuff for the 14-day duration will be supplied to residents by the Social Welfare Department," he said.
Ismail added that a medical base would also be set up in the area.
"For the execution of this order, all residents should remain calm and give their full cooperation to Health Ministry officers and obey all orders from the authorities," he said.
