KUANTAN: After the Pahang Mentri Besar and state executive council members decided to donate a portion of their salaries to the state Covid-19 fund, 29 other state assemblymen have also come forward to do the same.
The 14 assemblymen from Barisan Nasional, eight from PAS and seven from DAP had agreed to have 10% deducted from their allowances for three months.
Barisan's Sungai Lembing assemblyman Datuk Md. Sohaimi Mohamed Shah, PAS' Rosli Abdul Jabar (Tanjung Lumpur) and DAP's Lee Chin Chen (Bilut) said in a joint statement that two PKR assemblymen would not be taking the cut but would help the people in other ways.
"The effort is a manifestation of the assemblymen's empathy and solidarity with the difficulties faced by the people during the movement control order.
"It is hoped that this will help reduce the burden of the people and encourage more donations by others to the Pahang Covid-19 fund," they said.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and 10 state exco members announced on Wednesday (March 25) that 10% of their salaries would be deducted from April to June to be donated to the fund.
After an amendment in 2015, each Pahang assemblyman is paid a monthly allowance of RM11,000.
