MIRI: Erosion has been reported on two hillslopes in the districts of Betong and Kanowit over the past 12 hours due to heavy rain in the central and southern regions.

The Rumah Bantan longhouse in Ulu Layar, deep in the Betong district in southern Sarawak, has suffered structural damage due to soil movement at 8.30am.

The longhouse is on a hill overlooking Sungai Langit.

Betong Fire and Rescue Department have deployed teams to the site after being alerted.

Sarawak Bomba in its latest update said Betong was the nearest town from the longhouse.

The damages are still being accessed.

Meanwhile in the Kanowit district in central Sarawak, hillslope failure saw Rumah Anyong suffering partial collapse.

The 10pm incident last night saw heavy rain washing away the foundation of three units of houses.

Rumah Anyong has 33 housing quarters built next to each other.

Bomba Sarawak said Bomba Kanowit teams are helping to mitigate the slope failures to prevent further erosions.

No one was injured in these two incidents.
