JASIN: Drug traffickers are allegedly using the Jasin stretch of the North- South Expressway to distribute illegal substances.

Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Mispani Hamdan said local peddlers would collect their supplies along stretches close to the toll plaza here before selling them to addicts.

“We believe the supplies were from other states, ” he said yesterday.

DSP Mispani said his men had intensified their surveillance efforts, including along the expressway, after a series of raids recently.

“From the raids, we know where the hotspots were, ” he said.

DSP Mispani said 15 individuals were charged under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, adding that those charged on Feb 28 were mostly students and civil servants.

“This reflects the severity of the trafficking here, ” he said.

DSP Mispani said those detained and charged were aged between 18 and 55.

He said drugs of various types worth about RM63,000 were seized.

“We have also informed the respective educational institutions and government departments of the arrests of their students and staff, ” he added.
