KUALA KANGSAR: Perak state executive council members with a clean record will be appointed within a week, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
The list of exco members would definitely not include those with controversies, he said.
Faizal said he would follow the example set by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in appointing Cabinet members of calibre, integrity and with a clean record.
“We want candidates who are ‘clean’, and those who have been screened by agencies like the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, ” he told reporters after being sworn in as the 13th Mentri Besar before Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah at Istana Iskandariah here yesterday.
On March 10, Faizal tendered his resignation as Mentri Besar following Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s pullout from Pakatan Harapan.
However, he received the most support from the state assemblymen to be appointed as the MB again.
Prior to this, those who were also in the running for the post were state PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria and state Umno chairman Datuk Saarani Mohamad.
Faizal said he would ensure a good team of exco members would be appointed to ensure all meetings run smoothly for the benefit of the people.
He said it was important for the appointment to take place soon as the Ruler had raised concerns over the economic situation, which is badly affected due to Covid-19.
“I will be meeting with Saarani and Razman soon to discuss the exco list. I am hoping within a week they can be sworn in, ” he said.
Faizal said his priority was to move forward and to ensure the interest of the people was looked into.
There had been no exco meeting for five weeks in view of political uncertainties in Perak, he said.
“That is a loss for the state, ” he said.
Meanwhile, Razman said the Sultan’s decision to appoint Faizal was a right one.
“Faizal made a sacrifice by resigning as Mentri Besar from the previous state government to form a new one, ” he said.
