KUCHING: The Sarawak disaster management committee is calling on all Sarawakians who attended a recent gathering at Sri Petaling mosque in Kuala Lumpur to visit their nearest hospital or health centre for screening.
This comes after a participant from Brunei who attended the Feb 27-March 1 event was confirmed to be infected with Covid-19.
"If you or anyone you know had attended this event, please go to the nearest government hospital or health centre for the very important screening," the committee said in a statement on Thursday (March 12).
It also said Sarawak needed to step up preventive measures after the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared Covid-19 a pandemic and the increase in cases in Peninsular Malaysia.
As such, any public gathering involving more than 500 people should be postponed, the committee said.
It also advised that all non-essential travel between Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia be deferred.
"With the coming school holidays, parents and the public are advised not to go for holidays with their children to affected countries and affected states in Malaysia," the committee added.
