KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah may still be considering whether to support the new federal government. But this has not stopped both DAP and PKR from reassuring Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal that they are strongly behind him.

State DAP acting chairman Datuk Frankie Poon said Sabah DAP is happy with Shafie’s administration.

“I don’t see why we are not behind the Warisan-led state government if we are not happy, ” he said when contacted yesterday.

Asked if talk of at least one DAP assemblyman was going to defect was true, he said this was news to him, and urged the people not to speculate and cause confusion.

On Sabah Umno Youth chief Abdul Aziz Julkarnain’s statement claiming that it was a matter of time before the Warisan-led state government will collapse due to the shift in the federal government, Poon said these were just “political talk”.

He said the Sabah ruling coalition has 48 assemblymen, including five nominated members, in the 65-member state assembly. More than 31 would be needed to change the state government, he added.

Poon said the assemblymen are all solidly behind the state government.

He also said Sabah DAP is united in their commitment to the state government, even before it was formed prior to GE14.

Meanwhile, Sabah PKR chief Datuk Christina Liew also expressed her party’s support for Shafie, saying that talk of unhappiness among party leaders about him was baseless.

“The claim is not true. As far as Sabah PKR is concerned, doubts over the Chief Minister’s stewardship does not arise at all.

“We are an integral part of the Warisan-led government and stand behind him in his governance of the state, ” she said in a statement.

On talk that she was about to defect from her party, Liew, who is Deputy Chief Minister, said it was baseless.

“I adhere to my principles of unwavering support, loyalty and integrity.”

Liew said Sabah PKR members have pledged their strong support for Shafie’s leadership in the interest of greater progress and development for Sabah.

She also said the state government led by Shafie was formed after GE14 due to the strong partnership between Sabah PKR, Warisan, DAP and Upko.
