ROMPIN: National silat exponent Mohd Al-Jufferi Jamari was among the 250 award and medal recipients in conjunction with the Sultan of Pahang’s birthday celebration yesterday.

The Regent of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah conferred the Setia Ahmad Shah Pahang (SAP) award to Mohd Al-Jufferi along with 19 other recipients.

The ceremony held at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Silver Jubilee Hall here also saw 20 individuals receiving the Setia Mahkota Pahang (SMP) award.

Thirty were conferred the Ahli Ahmad Shah Pahang (AAP) and Ahli Mahkota Pahang (AMP) awards while 50 others were recipients of the Pingat Khidmat Cemerlang (PKC), Pingat Kelakuan Terpuji (PKT) and Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK) medals.

At the ceremony, Tengku Hassanal also showed his humility when he stepped down from the dias to present a medal to a wheelchair-bound recipient.

Mohd Al-Jufferi in expressing his gratitude for the tribute to athletes, said the award had motivated him to continue striving for excellence in the martial arts field.

The 28-year-old exponent who hails from Bukit Setongkol, Kuantan, said the honour came with a heavy responsibility as he was expected to live up to the palace and state government’s expectations.

“I must always remember to live up to the recognition. After 11 years of representing the state and Malaysia, this is one of my sweetest moments, ” he said, adding that he was informed of the award last week.

“From the very beginning, the state government and the Pahang Sports Council had always given their support by sending me for training or to participate in tournaments, ” he said.

Mohd Al-Jufferi said the award also encouraged him to work hard for the coming Four Nations Championship, which would determine his selection for the World Silat Championship as well as the Belgium Open Silat Championship in April. — Bernama
