KOTA KINABALU: Three people, including two General Operations Force (GOF) personnel, allegedly robbed a group of residents in Pulau Lundayan, Pitas, of their cash and valuables.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Zaini Jass said the suspects were nabbed not long after a report of the alleged incident was lodged.
“Two of them are GOF personnel.” he said, adding that one was later tested positive for drugs.
According to sources, the suspects arrived on the island at about 10am on Thursday and fired several gunshots in the air to alert the villagers of their presence. Some villagers were then drying fish while many were in their houses.
Comm Zaini said the suspects hit some of the villagers before instructing two of them to help buy syabu from a nearby island. He said before leaving, the suspects were also said to have forced villagers to hand over petrol from their boats.
“They left with over 100kg of dried fish, watches, cash and other items belonging to the villagers, ” he said.
