IPOH: The three remaining Perak Pakatan Harapan component parties will throw their support behind Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu to be the Mentri Besar for now.
As the political upheaval in the country continues to rumble on, DAP, PKR and Amanah will continue to back Faizal pending instructions from their respective party leaderships.
Perak DAP vice-chairman A. Sivanesan said yesterday the party would stand by an agreement made during the last general election that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia would chair the state coalition and Faizal would be the Mentri Besar.
“He was also sworn in as the Mentri Besar by Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.
“There are also no instructions from the top party leadership to stop supporting him, and thus, we will continue to do so, ” he said.
The state government is facing uncertainty after Bersatu’s exit from Pakatan on Monday.
For now, the state Pakatan, even without Bersatu’s Faizal and Sungai Manik assemblyman Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin, has 29 state assemblymen.
They comprise 18 from DAP, six from Amanah, four from PKR and Umno member-turned-independent Tualang Sekah assemblyman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohd Radzi. The state Muafakat Nasional has 28 seats (Umno with 25 and PAS three.)
On Tuesday, Faizal issued a press statement that he was still performing his responsibilities as the Mentri Besar and that he held the majority support from state assemblymen.
State PKR vice-chairman Tan Kar Hing said at this moment, he would still back Faizal.
“It’s a tricky situation, but I will still bind by his earlier statement while waiting for instructions from my party leadership, ” he said.
On Tuesday, Perak Amanah, through its chairman Datuk Asmuni Awi, had also pledged its full support for Faizal.
