KOTA KINABALU: A headmaster suffered a heart attack while waiting for sentencing on graft charges at the Special Corruptions Court in Sandakan.
Brahim Zakaria, 55, had pleaded guilty to three charges of power abuse committed between 2016 and 2017, and was waiting for his sentence to be read when he suffered a heart attack on Thursday (Feb 27).
It happened when the court stood down as the judge, Abu Bakar Manat, needed time to deliberate on the sentence.
Brahim had earlier pleaded for a lenient sentence, saying he was not ready to go to jail following his poor health condition, which required him to take medication.
He was later taken to the Duchess of Kent Hospital.
Abu Bakar then fixed April 2 for sentencing and Brahim was allowed a RM10,000 bail with a local surety.
Brahim had pleaded guilty to misusing school funds amounting RM14,300 between 2016 and 2017.
