IPOH: The people should be given the mandate to elect their state government, says Perak Umno chairman Datuk Saarani Mohamad.
Saarani said in light of the recent political situation in Perak, both Pakatan Harapan and the opposition did not have the majority vote to form the state government.
“With Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leaving the Pakatan Harapan coalition, they no longer hold the majority.
“To form a government, one must have at least 31 seats, and right now Pakatan Harapan Perak only has 29, ” he told reporters at the Perak Umno headquarters here Tuesday (Feb 25).
“In our opinion, the current administration has collapsed and there is no Mentri Besar, ” he added.
Saarani also questioned Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu’s statement that he (Faizal) still commands the majority support of the state assemblymen.
“Faizal must show proof that he still has the support from the assemblymen. We are in doubt over his statement.
“In addition to that, Tebing Tinggi assemblyman Dr Abdul Aziz Bari, who is a constitutional law expert, also said the state Pakatan government no longer holds power and that the Mentri Besar has lost his majority support, ” he said.
“On behalf of Perak Muafakat Nasional, we believe that it is better to give back the mandate to the people. We are prepared for anything, ” he said, adding that they planned to seek an audience with the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah to update him on the current situation.
