MIRI: PKR in northern Sarawak has completed the training for its first batch of election workers in case of early state elections.
PKR northern Sarawak state election director Dr Michael Teo Yu Keng told The Star on Thursday (Feb 20) that the training was a closed-door affair held at the PKR regional office here.
He said the election workers are made up of senior community leaders, adults and youths.
"We have just completed two days of comprehensive training for election workers in Miri to prepare them to handle campaign and polling matters.
"After this first batch in Miri, we will train up others for the rest of northern Sarawak. We are handling the state constituencies in Miri, Baram, Marudi, Limbang and Lawas.
"This early training will get us ready and in standby mode for snap polls. This shows how serious we are in wanting to capture Sarawak this state election," he said.
Dr Teo, who is Miri MP, said the party would rely on locals as election workers for the state election.
These election workers are being trained on matters relating to voters' registration roll, ground election campaign strategies, outreach and logistic arrangements such as transportation and accommodation needs.
He said they are also being trained on the latest rules and regulations pertaining to the election guidelines stipulated by the Election Commission.
The 12th Sarawak election is due by July next year.
However, there is increasing talk coming from both Opposition camps and the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) of snap polls within the next few months.
