GEORGE TOWN: A 29-year-old barber suffered two slash wounds to his right arm during an attack while working in Pulau Tikus here on Wednesday (Feb 19).

During the 10pm incident, the victim was cutting the hair of a customer at the barber shop when a man entered and slashed his right arm.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said CCTV footage from the shop showed that the man entered the shop and slashed the victim before taking off.

"The customer who was receiving the haircut was unhurt and tried to chase the suspect but he escaped with another man who was waiting on a motorcycle outside the shop.

"The cause of the incident is still unknown and police are carrying out investigations to trace the suspects.

"Initial investigations found that no weapons were left behind by the suspects," he said, adding that the victim was being treated at the Penang Hospital.

The case, he said, was being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt.

ACP Soffian said the victim is a foreigner who has stayed in Malaysia for around seven years.

"The victim has a valid working permit at the barber shop. The owner of the shop has been in the business for 13 years running 14 other outlets within George Town," he said.
