University student nabbed for theft from teachers' quarters

JOHOR BARU: A 19-year-old university student believed to be involved in a burglary, was arrested just hours after the incident took place here.

Kulai OCPD Supt Tok Beng Yeow said the suspect was arrested at about 11.30am Tuesday (Feb 18) during a police raid in Johor Baru.

"We received a report of a break-in that took place at around 6.15am Tuesday from a teacher living in the teachers' quarters in Kulai.

"The victim said that his wife's wallet, a mobile phone and a car, along with its keys, had gone missing from the house," he said in a statement Wednesday (Feb 19).

He added that the estimated value of losses from the break-in was about RM45,000.

Supt Tok said the police also found the victim's wife's wallet along with her MyKad and driving license in the raid.

"We have also seized a car believed to be the victim's along with some cash, an ATM card, a mobile phone and a necklace, as well as the suspect's student card," he said.

He added that the suspect will be remanded for seven days from Wednesday until Tuesday (Feb 25).

"The suspect is also believed to be involved in other cases in Kulai," he said, adding that the suspect did not have a criminal record.

Supt Tok added that the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penalty Code for house break-in and theft.
