JOHOR BARU: The Education Ministry aims to see an increase in enrolment at all higher learning institutions through its new integrated application portal, MyUPU.
Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching (pic) said registration would be open from Feb 24 until March 31 for SPM school-leavers and Feb 24 until April 7 for STPM students where applicants could register via online through MyUPU at http://upu.moe.gov.my.
Through this single online registration, she said applications could be sent for certificate, diploma or degree courses for the 2020/2021 academic session at institutions of higher learning.
“The online registration also includes public universities, teachers education institutes (IPG), matriculation colleges, polytechnics, community colleges and public skills training institutes, ” she told reporters after opening the Jom Masuk IPT 2020 programme held here yesterday.
Teo said there were 135,000 placings at all these institutions.
“Last year, about 10,000 places at all higher education institutions could not be filled up due to some applicants getting more than one offer while many did not receive any placing at all.
“Through the MyUPU portal, students will only have to make one application to continue their studies, ” she said.
Teo pointed out that previously, applicants for matriculation colleges and IPGs would need to submit their forms manually.
With this new portal, all applicants would be able to apply through a single window with a single offer concept.
“The reason behind this concept is that the ministry does not want to see one applicant receiving more than one offer from more than one higher education institution, ” she said.
On Jom Masuk IPT 2020, Teo said Johor was the first stop of eight locations for the programme.
It will be later held in Pahang, Kedah, Sabah, Perak, Terengganu, Sarawak and Serdang, Selangor on Feb 29.
Teo pointed out that the ministry targeted about 230,000 students to attend the programme at all these locations.
