PUTRAJAYA: Fairly dry weather is expected to return and remain till March, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a statement yesterday, it said although it rained in areas experiencing dry conditions in Perlis, Kedah, Penang and northern Perak, the wet weather is temporary.

“The country is still in the last phase of the northeast monsoon, which will last till the end of March.

“During this time, besides Sarawak, precipitation is normally low throughout the country, especially in the north of the peninsula,” the statement said.

On the basis of this forecast, MetMalaysia is advising the public to conserve water, refrain from open burning, reduce outdoor activities and stay hydrated.

MetMalaysia said the monsoon transition period from end-March will bring a lot more rain to the country.
