Elderly woman's leg impaled in attempt to climb over spiked gate

SIBU: A 72-year-old woman was impaled in her right thigh by a spike at the top of her aluminium house gate when she tried to climb over it on Thursday (Feb 13).

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, the woman's son had stowed away the keys to the gate to prevent her from going out of their house located on Jalan 1B, Indah Barat here.

"The son said his mother, Wa Ai Hua was suffering from dementia and could not remember things around her.

"When she went out of the house previously, she could not remember her way home," it said.

The Department said they received a distress call at 10.31am over the incident.

"Firemen had to cut the spike to free the woman. She was later rushed to the hospital for treatment," it said.
