GEORGE TOWN: Penang will be holding a public town hall session to get input from the public on the Penang Tourism Master Plan (PTMP) on Thursday (Feb 13).
The town hall session will take place at Ballroom 5, Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Bayan Lepas from 9am to 1pm.
Penang Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the strategic thrusts of the plan will be presented and public feedback was welcomed.
"For the first time ever, Penang will have a Tourism Master Plan serving as a blueprint to guide the sustainable development of the tourism sector in the state.
“The town hall serves as a platform to deliver a presentation of the final master plan and get engagement from all the key leaders of the tourism sector such as the government, industry players, tourism associations, community leaders, NGOs, academia and members of the public.
“The town hall is also expected to further strengthen the master plan as it is an important plan that shall lead the growth of the tourism sector for the next 10 years and beyond, especially in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year and Experience Penang Year 2020.
“The session becomes the concluding stage of the Penang Tourism Master Plan 2020 and public input is valued, ” he said in a statement Monday (Feb 10).
Yeoh added that the formation of the Penang Tourism Master Plan has integrated various opinions from focus group discussions held with various stakeholders.
“The plan will be carried out in two phases - short-term strategies from 2020 to 2025 and long-term strategies from 2025 to 2030, ” he said.
