JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) has seized a container containing herbal products (Xia Ku Cao) from China.

State Maqis director Nur Afifah A.Rahman said that the container weighed about a tonne and was stopped at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex several days ago.

The herbal products are believed to be worth about RM22,920.

She added that any attempt to import agricultural products without a valid permit from Maqis was an offence under Section 11(1) of the Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011, and is punishable under Section 11 (3) of the same Act.

If convicted, the offenders could be liable to a fine of not more than RM100,000 or be jailed for up to six years or both.
