PETALING JAYA: Wanita MCA welcomes the High Court decision on Friday (Feb 7) to dismiss the Government's application to forfeit a sum of RM300,000 from one of its bank accounts.
"The judgment is fair and professional. Wanita MCA is confident that the funds in our current account will be justly released to us.
"We will discuss with our lawyers regarding follow-up actions against the appeal and stay application by the Public Prosecutor, and will abide any further directive by the court in relation to this matter," the party wing said in a statement.
The High Court had dismissed forfeiture suits filed by the Government against Umno, Wanita MCA and two others in its bid to recover money linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
The two are companies Binsabi Sdn Bhd and Perano Sdn Bhd.
Justice Mohamed Zaini Mazlan said he had perused each of the respondents' bank statements for the relevant period as stated in the forfeiture suit.
"I am of the view that the current amount from the respondents' bank account could not be said to be from or part of the amount contributed by Datuk Seri Najib Razak," he said in his ruling.
The judge said he found that monies deposited in the accounts had long been spent.
"In gist, there is nothing left from the monies, banked in from Najib to the respondents' accounts left to be forfeited, even if it was to be assumed that the monies received were illegitimate proceeds," he added.
The Government had sought to recover RM192,965,413.61 from Umno, RM300,000 from Wanita MCA, RM827,250 from Binsabi and RM337,634.78 from Perano.
