Illegal land-clearing likely caused forest fire near Penang Hill

GEORGETOWN: Illegal land clearing is believed to be the cause of the forest fire behind the Kek Lok Si Temple near Penang Hill, says Penang environment committee chairman Phee Boon Poh.

He said they were still waiting for a report from the Fire and Rescue Department's forensic team but initial report indicated that the fire was triggered by open burning to clear land.
