Teen drowns at Lata Jarum waterfall

KUANTAN: A Form Three student drowned at the Lata Jarum waterfall in Ulu Dong, Raub near here.

Raub police chief Supt Kama Azural Mohamed said Farid Haikal Yusri, 15, was believed to have been taken by the current while bathing in the waterfall.

He said the victim, his two brothers and seven friends, all from Sungai Buloh in Selangor, and aged between 15 and 24, went into the waterfall after arriving there at 10.30am yesterday.

“They were playing in the pool and it is believed the current dragged them into the deep end.

“After realising Farid Haikal was missing the others searched for him but came up empty, ” he said in a statement.

Supt Kama Azural said the police were informed of the incident at 11.06am and a search and rescue operation was carried out by four officers and 26 personnel from the police, fire department and Pahang Forestry department.

He said the body was found at 2.25pm at the waterfall dam area and was brought to Raub Hospital for a post-mortem. — Bernama
