PETALING JAYA: A psychiatrist has been charged again at a Magistrate's Court here for allegedly insulting the modesty of a patient through vulgar speech.
Dr Gurdeep Singh Narain Singh, 42, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out to him before Magistrate Nurshahira Abdul Salim here Friday (Jan 24).
He was accused of uttering sexually-charged words against the 26-year-old victim with the intention for her to hear him at a private hospital in Kota Damansara at 4.30pm on Feb 12 last year.
The charge under Section 509 of the Penal Code carries a maximum five-year imprisonment or fine or both, upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor P. Vitiya Monisha suggested bail at RM5,000 in one surety.
However, lawyer Datuk Mohd Haaziq Pillay, who represented the accused, asked for a lower bail.
The court allowed bail at RM5,000 in one surety and fixed March 4 for mention.
Lawyer Francis Pereira held a watching brief for the victim.
On Oct 18 last year, Dr Gurdeep was charged with the same offence.
However, on Jan 13, he was given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal on a technicality relating to the investigation papers.
