KOTA KINABALU: Elderly folk in two homes here were given an early Chinese New Year treat by Petronas staff and volunteers who paid them a visit.

A total of 55 residents of the Old Folks Home in Likas and Bethany Home in Luyang were given ang pows and treated to lion dance performances organised by Yayasan Petronas.

The homes also received foodstuff, waterproof mattresses, fans and tables.

Volunteers helped with cleaning up the two homes and put up Chinese New Year decorations to give the residents a feel of festivity.

Head of Petronas for Sabah and Labuan, Rokiah Sulaiman said through this Sentuhan Kasih Yayasan Petronas, they hope to spread joy during the festive season as well as nurture the spirit of giving and volunteerism among its employees.

Chua Boon Kian, 69, a retired salesman living in one of the homes, thanked the volunteers for visiting the residents.

“I’m looking forward to celebrating the coming Chinese New Year,” he said.

Manager of Grace Old Folks Home, Alex Tham Vun Chung said he appreciated the gesture of individuals and organisations taking the effort to visit them.

“It helps with the festive mood and make the celebration more meaningful,” he said.
