KLANG: Police have urged the public to refrain from speculation over a fatal accident involving a pick-up truck and two motorcycles.
The incident, which occurred at around 7.20am Thursday (Jan 23), has gone viral on social media, with claims that the driver of the truck was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
A one-minute-and-43-second video, believed to be taken at the scene of the accident, shows a shirtless man stomping on the driver of the pick-up truck.
The shirtless man, believed to be one of the men who was hit by the truck, can be heard saying: "Dia straight terus hantam kita orang (The truck just drove straight and hit us all)."
He then slaps the man he is standing over and calls him stupid.
A group forms around the driver and they begin asking if he was drunk, which he denies.
The shirtless man is then seen stomping on the driver's head, while others demand he confess to being drunk.
The person filming the video then walks away and the camera is pointed at the body of a motorcyclist who died in the accident.
South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Shamsul Amar Ramli said the accident occurred near the Jalan Kebun roundabout.
"The pick-up truck was travelling towards the Kesas Highway when it swerved into the opposing lane and hit the two motorcycles.
"One of the motorcyclists died at the scene while the other two victims suffered multiple injuries and were taken to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah for treatment," he said, adding that the driver of the truck would be remanded for further investigations.
ACP Shamsul Amar said initial breathalyser tests showed that the amount of alcohol in the driver's blood was within permitted levels under the Road Transport Act 1987.
"Everyone should stop speculating and making allegations as it could jeopardise our investigations and lead to other negative issues," he said, adding that they were aware of the viral video.
