KUALA LUMPUR: Hospital Wanita dan Kanak-Kanak Kuala Lumpur has been renamed Tunku Azizah Hospital.
Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah said she felt honoured that the newly opened hospital had been named after her.
“I am deeply touched and humbled, ” she said yesterday when opening the hospital, which has a built-up area of 175,600sq m, in the heart of the city.
The Raja Permaisuri Agong also graced the hospital’s Stem Cell Transplant Centre and Reproductive Medical Centre.
Tunku Azizah advised mothers to look after the health of their children.
“If a child is ill, don’t wait one or two weeks before seeking treatment.
“As a person who has faced difficulty conceiving, I ensure that my children are immunised from birth to school-going years.
“Ensuring the health of the children is important for our future generations.
“Clean water is important for a healthy pregnancy, ” she added.
Tunku Azizah Hospital serves as a national referral hospital and centre of excellence, offering specialised services in obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatric.
Built on a 340ha plot of land in Kampung Baru here, the 11-floor hospital has been operational since August last year.
It is the first government hospital built under a private finance initiative in collaboration with UEM Group Bhd and Najcom Sdn Bhd.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said Tunku Azizah Hospital was among the new spacious hospitals built with modern facilities to offer comfort and better services.
“The importance of women and children in society is something that cannot be disputed.
“Women and children deserve the best care because they are the backbone of the nation, ” he said.
Also present was hospital director Dr Roniyuzam Abdul Malek.
