Body of missing Myanmar man found on beach near Samalaju Port

MIRI: The body of a 27-year-old Myanmar national who went missing during a beach outing with a group of friends has been found.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said the body of the victim, Aung Thu, was found on Sunday morning (Jan 19).

He was one of seven Myanmar youths who went for a late-night swim on the beach at Samalaju Port in northern Sarawak, about 150km south of Miri.

"We received an alert about the case and we deployed a search and rescue team to find him.

"His body was found on the beach at 10.23am Sunday (Jan 19) about 2.5km from where he went missing," said the department.

His body has been handed over to police.

The Myanmar youths are foreign workers who are working in Samalaju Industrial Estate, adjacent to the port.
