ALOR SETAR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad chaired a closed-door meeting with Kedah Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leaders, including Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, on the way forward for the party on Saturday (Jan 18).

The Prime Minister, who is Bersatu chairman, spent about two hours in the meeting at Tabung Haji Hotel.

Mukhriz told reporters after the meeting that Dr Mahathir gave his views on the current political situation as well as the coming party election.

He said Kedah was in unique situation whereby the party that led the country faced two Malay majority political parties in the state in the form of Umno and PAS.

He said with the Malay-Muslim community making up the majority in the state, the party needed to strengthen itself and its coalition in facing the next general election.

The meeting ended at about 5.30pm, and Dr Mahathir proceeded to his residence in Titi Gajah.

He is expected to attend Program Mesra Rakyat at Taman Bersatu in Kuala Kedah later in the night.
