KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines have cancelled flights between Kuala Lumpur and Manila following the eruption of a volcano in the Philippines.

Taal Volcano, south of Manila, began spewing ash on Sunday with more eruptions expected.

AirAsia said the airline was suspending and cancelling flights to and from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila (Naia), which has suspended operations.

“AirAsia guests travelling over the next few days are strongly encouraged to check their flight status at airasia.com/flightstatus for the latest updates,” it said, adding that it had notified all affected guests via email and SMS.

Malaysia Airlines also said flights into Naia would be suspended.

“Passengers are advised to check their flight status on the Malaysia Airlines website or mobile app.

“They are also required to update their contact details under the ‘Manage My Booking’ section on the website,” it said. — Bernama
