IPOH: Plans to send Fire and Rescue Department personnel to Australia to assist in the bushfire crisis have been put on hold, says Zuraida Kamaruddin (pic).

The Housing and Local Government Minister said although she had earlier announced that a 40-member team would leave for Australia on Wednesday (Jan 15), the mission had been postponed.

"Australia has asked us to look into their needs and whether we are able to fulfil them.

"So we need to study the matter before sending our firefighters. Even if we are unable to fulfil the requirements, we will try to send them to serve as additional manpower," she told reporters during a press conference in Pengkalan Hulu on Monday (Jan 13).

Earlier, at a press conference in Kuala Sepetang, near Taiping, Zuraida had said the 40-member team from the department would be leaving for Australia to offer their expertise, experience and advice in handling bushfires.
