PETALING JAYA: Allegations of drug abuse allegedly involving a Selangor state assemblyman and four political aides is serious and cannot be taken lightly, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).
The MCA president said the case must be investigated thoroughly by the police.
“An elected state representative has great power and influence.
“So do the appointed officials, including individuals who are officers to the Home Minister, who is responsible for the enforcement agencies in the country, ” he said in a post on his Facebook page Monday night (Jan 13).
It was reported earlier that a Selangor state assemblyman and four political special officers were among 17 people arrested during a raid in Puchong early Monday (Jan 13).
According to Malaysiakini, Dengkil assemblyman Adhif Syan Abdullah denied that he was arrested for drug use, claiming he was at home at the time.
Questioning the contradictory statements between the police and those allegedly involved, Dr Wee said many questions have arisen over what happened during the raid.
“Whatever it may be, this is a serious issue. It involves those that have influence, access and power to the highest authority in the country.
“If the authorities really want to weed out drug abusers, they must be strict at all levels, ” he said, adding that what’s in question was how did the drugs end up so easily in the possession of the group?
Dr Wee also lauded the police’s efforts in raiding the premises and arresting the suspects, saying they were “fearless” in their duties.
“I hope the investigation will be hastened and followed by the prosecution of those involved, ” he added.
