A RETIRED businessman in Muar, Johor, lost RM1.36mil of his life savings after falling for an inheritance fraud, Sin Chew Daily reported.

It started last year when he befriended a woman on Facebook, who claimed to be from the United States and had apparently inherited a large sum of money.

The man was duped into making more than 50 fund transfers between May and December last year into a Malaysian bank account as payment for an inheritance tax.

He was misled into thinking that he would have a share of the money once the woman was able to access her inheritance.

His daughter said the scammers even had a “website” which appeared to show that the woman was an heir to a vast sum of money.

The retiree has since lodged a police report.

> The daily also reported that Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi, 40, gave birth to her second child on New Year’s Day.

The 3.6kg boy was delivered at a hospital in the United States.

Zhang, who is known for her role in movies such as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Memoirs of a Geisha, announced the birth on Weibo.

She wrote that her family had been blessed with “a new member in our lives” on Jan 1, 2020.

“This is God’s greatest gift to us,” she said.

Zhang married musician Wang Feng in 2015. They have a four-year-old girl.

Wang posted on Weibo: “This is the second time I’m standing by my wife’s side and clutching her hand awaiting for the baby’s arrival. Once again, I can feel how difficult it is to be a mother. Thank you, my dear wife.”
