GEORGE TOWN: The state government is targeting 10,000 adults and 2,000 children to participate in the inaugural Experience Penang International Coastal Run 2020 scheduled for March 15.

Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the coastal fun run would feature a 5km run for participants aged between six and 12 and a 11.5km route for those aged 13 and above.

“We want to promote running to children and the 5km fun run is to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Junior runners must be accompanied by a parent during the run,” he said.

Yeoh also said one of the highlights for the run would be five food-tasting stations along the route dispensing free Penang street food.

“It’s a whole new experience for participants to be engaged in a healthy activity and be involved in Penang’s favourite pastime, which is eating,” he added.

The route for both 5km and 11.5km run would begin and end at Persiaran Bayan Indah, with the run held along the coastal route towards the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge.

The registration for the coastal run is available online at and will close on Feb 15. — Bernama
