MIRI: The remote interiors of central Sarawak are still affected by floods, two months after the start of the Landas rainy season.
SK Nanga Ibun in the interior of Kapit district in central Sarawak is inundated by up to five feet of water on Tuesday (Jan 7).
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said the floods started at about 3am.
Torrential pre-dawn rain caused the nearby river to overflow and water quickly rose around the school compound and buildings, Bomba Sarawak said in its latest updates.
Classrooms, administration block, dining hall and hostels were all affected, disrupting the school day, said Bomba Sarawak.
Low-lying areas were under up to five feet of water.
SK Nanga Ibun is one of many in the state that are vulnerable to floods.
Sarawak has been battered by rain and floods since the start of November last year.
