JOHOR BARU: Police have found that syndicates are selling recreational drugs such as magic mushrooms and marijuana in cigarette form.
The mushroom and ganja have become more popular among drug addicts and patrons of entertainment outlets, such as nightclubs, around here.
This was discovered by the police when they raided an apartment in Taman Johor Jaya where a 31-year-old Malaysian man was arrested and RM265,360 worth of various drugs were seized at around 10am on Friday.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din said the drugs included 5,570 ecstasy pills, 286.8g of ecstasy powder, 1.34kg of ketamine and 600 erimin 5 pills.
“My men also found 200 sticks of cigarettes that were found to contain ganja and magic mushroom.
“The suspect has been selling the cigarettes at a price of RM80 per stick. He had been active in the last couple of months, ” he told reporters yesterday.
The police also seized a BMW car, three rings and cash of RM2,000 and S$200 (RM607) from the suspect.
In an unrelated case, Comm Kamarudin said police arrested a 35-year-old Malaysian at an apartment in Taman Pelangi at around 9pm on the same day.
About 250 erimin 5 pills, 65.17g of ecstasy powder, 68.20g of cocaine, 14.40g of ketamine, 36 ecstasy pills and 59g of ganja worth RM22,600 were seized.
Comm Kamarudin said police also seized a Honda Accord car, two watches and RM3,000.
Both men have been been remanded until Jan 8 to assist with investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Comm Kamarudin also said that throughout 2019, Johor police detained 17,605 suspects for various drugs offences and seized 2,960kg of drugs valued at RM134.93mil.
