GOPENG: About 1,292 pupils from seven districts in Perak will enjoy the Free Breakfast Programme starting this month.

Perak Education Committee chairman Dr Abdul Aziz Bari said seven schools have been selected for the first phase of the programme, with SJKT Ayer Tawar in Manjung leading the pack with 394 pupils.

“We also have about 231 pupils from SK Datin Khadijah in Kuala Kangsar and 165 pupils from SK Jernang in Batang Padang, ” he told reporters after visiting Sekolah Rendah Islam Pintar (SRIP) in Kampung Kepayang near here on Thursday (Jan 2).

Other schools are SK Seri Tanjung in Kinta Utara with 141 pupils, SK Pos Dipang in Kinta Selatan (104), SK Suak Padi in Perak Tengah (121), and SK Sungai Tiang in Hulu Perak (136).

The programme, as announced by the Education Ministry last year, would dish out free breakfasts to some 2.7 million primary school pupils.

Aziz Bari added that the state has allocated about RM2mil for tahfiz and pondok schools and another RM2mil for parent-teacher associations in the state for this year.
