PETALING JAYA: Tun Daim Zainuddin (pic) has shot down the notion that all Malays are lazy.
Pointing out that not all Malays were lazy, Daim said the lazy Malays were the ones who had gotten contracts and approved permits (APs) and then sold these to others
“If you look at history, Melaka became a successful trading port because of the Malays.
“And when you take the LRT every morning, you see Malays on it going to work.
“The ones selling nasi lemak are also Malays. It’s not right to say Malays are lazy, ” he was quoted as saying during the eUsahawan Young Heroes Programme at MITEC on Saturday.
Astro Awani also quoted the former finance minister calling on the government to focus on four key areas – cost of living, housing, clothing and jobs – to assist the rakyat.
“The people are not happy as goods are expensive and housing even more so. The government needs to address and look into such problems, ” he added.
Daim also reminded parents to pay more attention to the interests of their children instead of instructing them to focus on getting good results.
In the past, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had often criticised the Malays for not working hard enough and even expecting handouts.
