KOTA KINABALU: Petronas is spreading the Christmas cheer to the less fortunate this year by donating holiday goodies to some 350 families via its Sentuhan Kasih Natal programme.

The families, who come under the B40 households (median household income of RM3, 000 and below) category, from Keningau, Kiulu and Labuan, were given jolly treats and gifts in conjunction with this Yuletide season.

The programme held on Dec 13 (Labuan), Dec 15 (Kiulu) and Dec 21 (Keningau), also saw the families gathering for all sorts of activities conducted by Petrosains, which is Petronas’ Science Discovery Center.

Sabah and Labuan Petronas head Rokiah Sulaiman said the programme was a continuation of the company’s tradition to reach out to communities nationwide in conjunction with major festive seasons such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Kaamatan, Gawai, Deepavali, Chinese New Year and Christmas.

“At the same time, through this programme, we also aim to nurture and enhance the spirit of giving and volunteerism among our employees by providing them with a platform to interact and engage with the people of various communities,” she said in her speech in Keningau.

Her speech was delivered by the company's Kimanis Petroleum Training Centre head Moh Ariffin A. Ahaling.

The families in Keningau also received packets of rice along with the holiday goodies during the event.

Earlier in Kiulu, Yayasan Petronas contributed food items to some 100 underprivileged families as well as six units of industrial fans to the Kampung Rugading community hall under the programme.

Kiulu Village Community Management Council chairman Connel Lunggi said the village's annual Christmas celebration was made merrier with Petronas' contribution.

In Labuan, a total of 150 families received similar contributions under the programme.

In addition, Yayasan Petronas contributed five units of wheelchairs to Hospital Nukleus Labuan and personal hygiene care products to a total of 100 patients who were receiving treatment at the hospital.
